Award Details
The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (CIHR-ICRH) and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) have established of an annual Mid-Career Lecturer Award in Cardiovascular Sciences in recognition of an individual's outstanding contribution to the advancement of cardiovascular sciences in Canada at the mid-point of their career. The award will be presented to the selected candidate annually at Vascular 2023, where the recipient will give a lecture as part of the scientific program.
The selected candidate will be an outstanding mid-career investigator (at the time of application, has assumed their independent research position 5-15 years ago; 6-16 for 2023 competition only due to Covid-19 pandemic) who has conducted the majority of their research in Canada and has contributed significantly to the advancement of cardiovascular sciences in Canada and/or internationally.
The individual may have conducted work in any one of a number of cardiovascular science disciplines and within any of the four CIHR research theme areas: biomedical; clinical; health systems and services; and social, cultural, environmental and population health. The successful candidate's research should also be aligned with the interests of CCS and CIHR-ICRH. The nominated candidate's research should also be in a field of interest to the CIHR-ICRH, CCS, and attendees of Vascular 2023.
The award includes a $5,000 honorarium and reimbursement of eligible expenses (e.g., travel, accommodations, registration fee, etc.) for the recipient to attend Vascular 2023 and participate in in a session as a part of Canadian Cardiovascular Congress at Vascular 2023.
Nominations will be assessed against the following evaluation criteria:
- Impact of nominee's research in cardiovascular sciences both in Canada and internationally; extent to which the nominee has contributed significantly to the advancement of cardiovascular sciences both in Canada and internationally (e.g., important/key research results or findings) over the last ten years;
- Relevance/application/impact of nominee's research to clinical outcomes, new IP, or other important breakthroughs in the field of cardiovascular sciences;
- Demonstrated strength and reputation of the nominee in the field of cardiovascular sciences in Canada and internationally; and
- Impact of the nominee's mentorship and training environment on the development of early career scientists and other highly qualified personnel in Canada and internationally.
